Special Educational Needs Provision

 

The school devotes great care and attention to ensuring that all children experience success, progress and achievement.Where a student has particular academic or pastoral needs, we work hard to support them by:

 

· involving them and their parents/carers in their progress

· raising their self esteem

· accessing outside support for them

· celebrating their successes.

 

The school has a dedicated team of staff including a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), Teaching Assistants and Learning Mentors who give particular attention to these students. The school encourages parents and carers to bring any concerns about their child to our attention. In this way, we are able to work in partnership for the good of each child.

 

One parent noted: ‘My son has had tremendous support. The school has been very accommodating with his particular difficulties and he has been totally integrated into mainstream education which has been a wonderful boost to his confidence.’

 

“The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice” identifies responses to be made in the case of identifying and providing for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The first responses are school based. We will, however, as the need arises call upon the expertise and advice of outside agencies, actively seeking their support for specific children. At later stages, the Local Authority (LA) shares responsibility with the school for the individual child's Special Educational Needs.
