Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Key Stage 3 Curriculum

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), Grove’s curriculum meets the requirements of the National Curriculum.

For teaching purposes, students are placed in teaching groups according to their ability for the majority of subjects. Groups are regularly reviewed, particularly in the first term and following progress reports, and changes are made where necessary. Students follow the same syllabus across the Year Group so that changes between teaching groups can be made easily. We hope that these arrangements will give students the opportunity to be supported in their education and make progress at the level that is most appropriate to them.

In Year 7, all students study  English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Religious Education, Physical Education, Art, Design Technology, Music, PSHEE/Citizenship, a Modern Foreign Language (French, German or Spanish) and Drama.

In Year 8, students remain in ability sets for the majority of subjects. In addition to the curriculum offered in Year 7, most students begin to study an additional Modern Foreign Language.

In Year 9, the arrangement for teaching will the curriculum is the same as for Year 8.

We also place an emphasis on students developing skills. Students take part in projects to develop the skills to learn, co-operate successfully with others, manage situations and develop as citizens - aware of their role in the global community - through a focus on international awareness.
